I would describe my story of becoming a Christ follower as a classic. I am blessed to have Christian parents who took me to church, talked to me about God, and helped me to understand how to become a Christian. I decided to follow Jesus at a young age, and I can see how God has been working throughout my life, helping to replace worries with prayers, gossip with the gospel, and critical words with encouraging words.
My conversion as a child was real, but I always wonder if I would have made the same decision if my life were different. What if I had been born into a different family, without Christian parents, or in a different place, where the very culture is in opposition to a life dedicated to Jesus?
My curiosity led me to listen to the stories of others. I wanted to hear from people who were different than me- specifically those who had come to know God later in life, and who had made the decision to convert to Christianity independantly of their families.
I asked four questions:
What did you believe about God before becoming a Christian?
What was your opinion of Christians, and of the church?
Why did you change your mind?
Who influenced your decision to believe?
What changed in your life after deciding to follow Christ?
These stories were an inspirational reminder that anyone can change his or her mind, and that the transformation that comes from knowing God personally is real.
If you are a believer, notice how each person was influenced by the Christians in his or her life, and praise God, who is mighty to save.
If you are not a believer, I am grateful if you listen to these stories of those who believe differently than you do with an open mind.
