What did you believe about God before becoming a Christian?

For me, God practically didn’t exist. Although there were periods of time when I wasn't sure, I was a determined atheist. I didn’t accept belief in God; I rejected it.

Why did you reject it?

I rejected any belief in God because my way of thinking was rationalistic and closed-minded.

Why did you change your mind?

I changed my mind because I started to believe in God and I found him in my life. It was a long process; not a change that just happened overnight. It took me a long time to realize. I found God at a time in my life when everything was very difficult, and it changed the way I saw everything.

Who influenced your decision to believe?

The person who shared the gospel with me was, first and foremost, a person that I didn’t get along with. He was a teacher at my high school, and we had even had several conflicts and fights. It got to the point that he realized that the only way he could help me with my personal problems was to share Christ with me. And it was then that I accepted, or at least heard someone talk about Jesus, and in time God started to manifest himself in my life, in my way of thinking and of acting.
Since I am a sensitive and quiet person, when my classmates insulted and bullied me, I didn’t usually defend myself. But one day something changed, because I got fed up. I was sick of all the violence and I reacted violently. That particular day it was all too much for me.

I was fighting with a classmate when that teacher appeared, and I asked him to speak in private. He agreed, and we started to talk about my situation and my problems. And he didn’t know how else to help me, so he shared with me about Christ.

 At times you don’t have any solution to offer to life’s problems, but you can always share Christ. That’s the good thing about the gospel.

I said a prayer to accept Christ that very same day. I took more time to accept living as a Christian, which is maybe something that continues to develop from day to day. But that same day I even apologized to the boy I had gotten into the fight with. And from that moment on they stopped bothering me at school, and things began to change for the better. So, I really see that there is a true change with God, when you accept him.

What changed in your life after deciding to follow Christ?

     I became more sociable, and I started to be less fearful. I can’t say that my personality changed, because I continue to be myself. But the way I act, and the way I deal with things today, are different than the way I did before, and that really is all thanks to God.

...give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
